Our Executive Team

Dr. E. Sreedharan

President

For a short period, Sreedharan worked as a lecturer in Civil engineering at the Government Polytechnic, Kozhikode and a year at the Bombay Port Trust as an apprentice. He subsequently joined the Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE), after clearing the Indian Engineering Services Exam in 1953 conducted by the UPSC. His first assignment was in the Southern Railway as a Probationary Assistant Engineer in December 1954. In December 1964, a cyclone washed away parts of Pamban Bridge that connected Rameswaram to mainland Tamil Nadu. The Railways set a target of six months for the bridge to be repaired while Sreedharan's boss, under whose jurisdiction the bridge came, reduced it to three months. Sreedharan was put in-charge of the execution and he restored the bridge in just 46 days. The Railway minister's Award was given to him in recognition of this achievement.

Vinod Nambiar

General Secretary

Associate Vice President ( Software Services ) at Advanced Software Systems

SoftwareEngineer with a strong interest in Kerala’s cultural heritage and traditional knowledge systems. Bharathapuzha and Folklore is his passion. He was born and brought up in what is known as Valluvanad – an area formed by contiguous portions of Palakkad, Malappuram and Thrissur Districts in Kerala. Native village is Arangottukara, a little hamlet on the banks of the river Nila that’s rich in culture and steeped in tradition.

Right from childhood, he had a keen interest in assimilating local knowledge and in observing and absorbing the local ethos. In course of time he understood the value of our native culture and traditional knowledge, and the pressing need for preserving it in the face of rapid transition. He joined hands with a few like-minded friends, and Vayali was born.

The early days of Vayali were very challenging. Most of the members were from economically backward communities who eked out a meager livelihood doing odd jobs. Being the sole breadwinners in their respective families made their position even more precarious. However all were driven by a passion for folklore, folk art, folk music, folk dance and folk culture. After much brain storming they arrived at this decision: make folklore, art, music, dance and culture our means for livelihood, and in the process promote these traditional forms of expression. Today Vayali is self sustaining and continues to spread awareness about our ethnic uniqueness. His contribution to Vayali won him the 2008 Changelooms - Young Social Changemaker Award. The Global Achievers Foundation, New Delhi has shared their token of appreciation for the social activities "Excellence Award for National Social Activity 2012 " . Kerala state youth welfare board has selected me for the first Swami Vivekanda Youth Award in 2013 for the Social Work Category.
